"On Wednesday, nine Yr 12 students from Cairns State High School had the opportunity to visit the site of the hospital’s new Mental Health Unit. Led by the project manager Matt, and supported by Paul, Anais and Illiana, students were first taken to the project HQ, where they got to chat about what it’s like to work in the construction industry. Matt and Paul spoke about the pros and cons of being a tradie, and gave first hand experiences of what it’s like on the tools. Matt also showed the students the working drawings for the new building, and explained where the workers were up to.
The students were then taken onto the site to see the work being done for themselves. The Hutchinson team took them on a walk-through where they got to see the new building’s foundations being built. Students had the opportunity to ask questions, and talk about the construction process.
A huge thank you to Matt and his team at Hutchinson’s for taking time out of their busy schedule to inspire our students to pursue a career in the Construction industry."
