2019 Annual Aspire Awards Presentation Night

Students set for success as scholarships and prizes awarded More than 20 awards and competitions were offered at the 9th annual Aspire Awards Presentation Night hosted by the Business Liaison Association with over $40,000 of scholarships, bursaries and prizes available. More than 550 people attended the awards presentation night to honour and celebrate the secondary students as they get set for their future. TAFE Marine Careers Forum - Smithfield SHS

TAFE Marine Careers Forum Smithfield State High School On Monday 14 October, twenty four Smithfield State High School students in years 10, 11 and 12 visited the Great Barrier Reef International Maritime College GBRIMC) for the Marine Careers Forum. The students were provided with information on the possible career options that could follow successful completion of the many courses offered at GBRIMC, including the school-based Certificate II in Maritime Operations Coxswain Grade 1 Near Coastal). Breakfast with the Law

BREAKFAST WITH THE LAW On Friday 18th October, the BLA organised our annual Breakfast with the Law.  There were approximately 140 students in attendance at the Rydges Esplanade Resort.  This Breakfast was sponsored by the wonderful O'Connor Law and supported by BEAQ.  These wonderful organisations make this breakfast for the students possible. Site Visit with Hutchinson Builders

HUTCHINSON BUILDERS STUDENT SITE VISIT Thanks Matt and Jane at Hutchinson Builders who allowed 10 students from our Certificate I in Construction class to visit their site at Trinity Bay State High School. Students gained insight into a number of trades, particularly as they relate to commercial building sites. Watching videos or seeing photographs don’t compare with the value of being onsite during a building’s construction. Students observed the work of carpenters, form workers, block layers, electricians, plumbers, plasterers, renderers and a range of other trades. BDO's Big Day Out

BDO'S BIG DAY OUT Thanks, Angela for coordinating and please once again pass on our thanks to BDO for offering this opportunity for students.  The students found it a great experience.  It was wonderful the way BDO had their staff provide an overview of the range of different areas of work in an Accountants office they don't often believe or register that it is not just Tax!  The office tour did scare them a little so much paperwork sitting around and the sitting around aspect too) but having the tour conducted by a recent graduate for our group was great. ...
