Reader's Cup 2018

Readers’ Cup 2018 Cairns State High School welcomed 27 teams of avid readers from across the region to the CBCA Far North Queensland Readers’ Cup on Friday, 15th June held in the Cairns High Library. Students in Years 7 and 8 are invited to form teams of four to read a selection of 5 novels and then compete in a quiz style competition to test their knowledge of the texts. The aim of the competition is to nurture a love of reading and provide students who enjoy reading with an opportunity to represent their school in a state wide competition....

In Conversation & In Song - Christine Anu

On Monday 23 April Cairns SHS welcomed Christine Anu, to perform In Conversation and Song. Five state schools across the Cairns region engaged with this opportunity, unfortunately Tully SHS and Redlynch SC withdrew from the event last term. None the less, over one hundred and sixty students from Trinity Bay SHS and 250 students from Cairns SHS enjoyed an afternoon of music, memories and conversation with Christine Anu. Next Generation Chefs

On Monday 29 May, 15 year 11 hospitality students from Cairns State High School, St Mary's Catholic College, Bentley Park College and Peace Lutheran College took part in a cooking masterclass at TAFE North. The focus was on preparing gourmet desserts including choux paste, raspberry coulis, white chocolate snow", vanilla pastry cream and chocolate caviar. The students were shown how to make each of these by the professional chefs at TAFE North including Alan Beggs, Darcy Greer and Andrew Pont and then had the opportunity to make and plate up their own dessert.
