On Thursday 17 October, the Year 12 Legal Studies class comprising 23 students had the privilege of listening to and engaging with analysis of contemporary legal issues with Professor Anthony Gray. A lecturer at the University of Southern Queensland and with an array of publications to his name, Prof. Gray led an insightful discussion about human rights. During the 1.5 hour presentation, Anthony gave us the opportunity to discuss and debate our ideas ranging from the freedoms of speech and religion amongst many other human rights topics. An educational experience in a relaxed environment, the session was certainly enjoyable and helpful to the aspiring lawyers of St. Monica’s.

Tuesday 15 October Professor Anthony Gray came to Woree SHS for the first time in a number of years. His visit involved one staff member; Carice Fehlberg – HoD Humanities/Business and sole Legal Studies teacher in the school. Prof. Gray presented to the 10 Legal Studies class (7 students) and the 11 Legal Studies class (also 11 students).
The feedback from classes is that they really enjoyed Prof. Gray’s relaxed and conversational style of presentation and appreciated the up to date legal material that he provided, especially the year 11s in relation to the Israel Folau contract dispute.
As a Legal Studies teacher, I also learnt a lot from Prof. Gray as he is particularly adept at getting students to provide considered responses to thought-provoking questions. I also appreciated the up to date legal material presented and will be keen to involve Prof. Gray in our Legal Studies program again in the future.
Thank you
