Cairns High’s visit to the Shangri-La’s refurbishment was an interesting and informative visit for all the students. We had seven students visit the site, most of whom had never been on a construction site before. The visit involved a walk through and explanation of the various stages of refurbishment from demolition through to the completion of soft furnishings. Students were exposed to trades including carpentry, plumbing, electrical, waterproofing, plastering, tiling, floor laying and cabinet making and discussed the importance of project management to ensure each of the trades work together most efficiently.
It was important for students to hear about Hutchinson’s emphasis on providing a safe workplace while delivering high quality workmanship on time.
