Vocational Education And Training Awards

Hosted by the Business Liaison Association (BLA) in partnership with local schools and community stakeholders in Cairns, North Queensland.

 

Bridging pathways between education, training and employment.

 

Overview

The Vocational Education and Training Awards is offered by the Business Liaison Association, in conjunction with Vocational Partnerships Group, and is offering VET students, teachers and businesses in the region an opportunity to participate in the above awards as part of the annual BLA Awards.

 

CONDITIONS OF ENTRY

Students can nominate in either the Vocational Student of the Year or the School-based Apprentice / School-based Trainee of the Year category.

 

Students must choose to enter either the Vocational Student of the Year category or the school-based Apprentice/Trainee of the year category but cannot enter both.

 

Vocational student of the year

You are a year 12 student and have completed or expect to complete an accredited course through a Registered Training Organisation between January 2025 and November 2025. You may be studying your Vocational Training via a school subject or externally with a Registered Training Organisation, but you do not need to be an apprentice or trainee.

 

School-based Apprentice / School-based Trainee of the Year

You are a school-based apprentice or trainee undertaking Year 12 in 2025. You must still be enrolled at school; and your training contract must be registered with the Queensland Department of Employment, Small Business and Training.

 

VET Teacher of the Year

You are a qualified teacher or trainer, holding a minimum Certificate IV Workplace Training and Assessment or VET Delivered to School Students Teacher Enhancement Skill Set and you must be employed or regularly contracted by a Registered Training Organisation.  You must be delivering training ‘in front of a class’ and the training must lead to nationally recognised qualifications of statements of attainment.

 

VET Employer of the Year

Acknowledges our employers for their commitment to VET Pathways, recognising their time, energy and support of our students by public congratulations at the Awards Presentation Evening.
