Our Hutchinson Builders Awards for Excellence in Built Environment Design Sponsors

Hosted by the Business Liaison Association (BLA) in partnership with local schools and community stakeholders in Cairns, North Queensland. 

The Business Liaison Association extends its sincere appreciation to Hutchinson Builders for their valued sponsorship of the Hutchinson Builders Awards for Excellence in Built Environment Design Award.

Through their support, we continue to strengthen pathways between education, training, and employment — empowering the next generation of agricultural professionals across Far North Queensland.

 

Overview

The Hutchinson Builders Awards for Excellence in Built Environment Design support and recognise students who demonstrate both aptitude and a genuine interest in pursuing a career within the building design industry.

Founded in 1912, Hutchinson Builders has played a significant role in shaping the environments in which Australians live, work, study, shop, and play. As a distinctive leader within the construction industry, Hutchinson Builders is committed to delivering tailored solutions for every project, rejecting a “one-size-fits-all” approach in favour of innovation, collaboration, and client-centred design.

In celebrating this commitment to thoughtful and responsive design, the award recognises excellence in design thinking, innovation, and stakeholder-centred problem-solving within the built environment. Students are required to develop and present a comprehensive design folio documenting the proposal of a built environment solution tailored to the specific needs of identified clients and stakeholders.

The award is open to Year 10, 11, and 12 students across Far North Queensland, encouraging emerging designers to explore meaningful pathways into the construction and design sectors.

 

Conditions of Entry

Applicants must:

• Be currently enrolled in Year 10, 11, or 12 and studying Design.
• Have achieved a grade of A or B in a relevant school-based assessment.
• Submit a design folio documenting the design and proposal of a built environment.
• Be available to attend a judging interview if shortlisted.
• Be available to attend the Awards Presentation Evening if selected.

Each folio must include:

• Documentation of the Design Process
• A Design Brief
• A Design Proposal

All entries must be the original work of the student and verified by the school.

 

Prize & Bursaries

Recipients will receive a personalised certificate and the following bursaries:

Winner                             $1,000.00

Runner-Up                       $600.00

Encouragement Award    $400.00
