Our VPG Vocational Education and Training Awards Sponsors

Hosted by the Business Liaison Association (BLA) in partnership with local schools and community stakeholders in Cairns, North Queensland. 

The Business Liaison Association extends its sincere appreciation to Vocational
Partnership Group (VPG) for their valued sponsorship of the VPG Vocational Education and Training Awards.

Through their ongoing support, we continue to strengthen pathways between education, training and employment, empowering the next generation of students and future professionals across Far North Queensland.

Overview

The Vocational Education and Training (VET) Awards, presented by the Business Liaison Association in conjunction with the Vocational Partnerships Group, recognise excellence in vocational education, training and industry engagement across the Far North Queensland region.

These awards celebrate the achievements of students, teachers, and employers who demonstrate commitment to vocational pathways, supporting strong connections between education, industry and employment outcomes.

 

Eligibility and Conditions of Entry

Students may nominate in one of the following categories:

  1. Vocational Student of the Year, OR
  2. School-based Apprentice OR
  3.  School-based Trainee of the Year

Students must choose one category only.

Vocational Student of the Year

  • Must be a Year 12 student (2026)
  • Must have completed or be expected to complete an accredited course through a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) between January and November 2026
  • Training may be undertaken through a school-based subject or externally
  • Students do not need to be an apprentice or trainee

School-based Apprentice 

  • Must be a Year 12 student (2026)
  • Must be a school-based apprentice
  • Must remain enrolled at school
  • Must have a registered training contract with the Queensland Department of Employment, Small Business and Training

School-based Trainee of the Year

  • Must be a Year 12 student (2026)
  • Must be a school-based trainee
  • Must remain enrolled at school
  • Must have a registered training contract with the Queensland Department of Employment, Small Business and Training

 

VET Teacher of the Year

  • Must be a qualified teacher or trainer
  • Must hold a minimum Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (or equivalent)
  • Must be employed or contracted by a Registered Training Organisation (RTO)
  • Must deliver training leading to nationally recognised qualifications or statements of attainment

 

VET Employer of the Year

  • Recognises employers who demonstrate outstanding commitment to VET pathways
  • Acknowledges employers who support students through training, mentorship and workplace opportunities

School-based Trainee of the Year

Please note: Final prize amounts may vary from those listed above, depending on sponsorship contributions and the number of applicants.
