The Cairns Show Billboard Competition

THE CAIRNS SHOW BILLBOARD COMPETITION

 

The Business Liaison Association Inc, in conjunction with the Cairns Show Association, once again offers the Cairns Show Association "Billboard Competition" to years 10, 11 and 12 Visual Art and Media students in Far North Queensland.

Visual Art and Media students interested in competing in this uniquely visible competition are invited to enter.

The competition is offering students in the Far North the opportunity to have their original artwork displayed on a 4m x 12m billboard located at the Scott Street entrance at the Cairns Show Grounds.

Students may enter their work in the following 4 categories:

  1. Original Artwork - Canvas or Paper                  
  2. Original Digital Photograph
  3. Original Indigenous Artwork - Canvas, Paper or Digital Photograph
  4. Original Media Image promoting the Cairns Show

Prizes – First Place in each Category – (4 Winners)

  • Inclusion on the 12-metre-long billboard at Scott Street, Cairns Showgrounds
  • Involvement with local Media
  • Inclusion in Business Liaison Association Website
  • $100.00 voucher for art supplies and a Certificate of Participation
  • Painting Party Membership for 3 months valued at $165
  • One Day Family Pass to the Cairns Show 2021

Prizes –Second in each Category (8 Winners)

  • $50.00 voucher for art supplies and a Certificate of Participation
  • Second – Painting Party for 2 people – Valued at $110.00
  • One Day Double Pass to Cairns Show 2021

A presentation function will be held in Cairns on 30th November 5.30pm-7.30pm at the Pullman International Hotel, Cairns. Invitations will be forwarded to the students and teachers via the contact details provided in the entry form.  Winning Students are expected to attend and will be presented with their prizes at this Awards Presentation and we encourage, students and their families to participate. Students will be required to wear formal school uniform for this event.

Teachers are encouraged to consider artworks currently being made by students in Visual Art, Visual Arts in Practice, Media Arts in Practice and Arts in Practice. Teachers are also encouraged to consider year 10 students making artworks in Visual Art and Media.

Applications OPEN                   Week 3, Term 2 -   Friday May 7th

Winners announced                 Week 1, Term 3 –   Monday July 12th

 

Please read the attached details and conditions carefully and forward application forms to Midaviau at: xmida2@eq.edu.au. Please also note the following points:

 

  1. Each school must forward the application fee of $88.00 (includes GST) to cover administrative costs of the Awards.  This is a one-off fee. Schools may submit multiple entries.

 

  1. All students who participate will be eligible for a Certificate of Participation.
     
  2. All submitted artwork must be clearly labelled with the entrant's name, school and grade (See entry Form).
     
  3. High Resolution images of the artworks need to be emailed to:

  1. Student artworks should be original and not be altered after the photograph is taken and submitted.
