Salt House Restaurant Schools Culinary Challenge

Theme: A Taste of the Tropics

In partnership with the Business Liaison Association (BLA) hosted by Innisfail State College this hands-on culinary competition celebrates Far North Queensland’s vibrant tropical produce and offers students an exciting opportunity to develop, present, and showcase their culinary skills in a real-world environment. It encourages confidence, teamwork, creativity, and direct exposure to industry professionals.

Bridging pathways between education, training and employment.

 

Competition Overview

Open to students in:

  • Year 9 – Prepare one main dish in 2 hours
  • Year 10 or 11 – Prepare one main dish and one complementary side dish in 3 hours

Each participating school may nominate:

  • 1 student from Year 9
  • 1 student from either Year 10 or Year 11 - (Year 10 and 11 students will compete in the same senior category)

 

Categories/Bursaries

Year 9

  • Best main dish                    $200
  • Best overall presentation    $150
  • Best adherence to theme   $100

Year 10/11

  • Best overall                         $200
  • Best overall presentation    $150
  • Best adherence to theme   $100

The year 10/11 competition winner also have opportunity to spend a day working with the salt house chefs.
