Manufacture Your Career Breakfast

"Manufacture Your Career" Breakfast

"It was fantastic to see such keen and enthusiastic students attending our inaugural “Manufacture Your Career” Student Industry Breakfast in collaboration with the Cairns Manufacturing Hub held on Friday 22 March 2024 at the Pullman Cairns International Hotel.  The breakfast was established to educate students who were considering a trade pathway in trades that they may not have considered in strong well established companies in Cairns.

We maxed out with 250 students in attendance, listening to speakers from

  • Tropical Reef Shipyards – Mr Neil Thompson
  • Hanby Welding and Engineering – Mr Kohan Hanby
  • Norweld Australia – Mr Isaac Edmiston
  • Jet Aviation – Mr Harry Stacey
  • BAE Systems – Mr Nastassja Regan

The speakers shared their experience, industry expectations and their stories with the students, encouraging them to consider a career in our local manufacturing industries.  Each school was offered the opportunity to ask a question to the speakers and at the end of the event the students had the opportunity to personally approach the speakers if they had more questions.  As a result of the breakfast we now have 250 students having conversations about jobs within the manufacturing industries and the benefits available (eg. Work a 4 day week) with their peers, teachers and families.

The feedback from the event was extremely positive and we are already looking into the structure of next year’s event.  Thank you to the Cairns Manufacturing Hub for sharing our vision and to the teachers and principals who encouraged the students to attend.   We hope that they were truly inspired!

Today’s students are Tomorrow’s workforce!"

Kind regards

Kerrie Stanley

Executive Officer
