On the 13th of October 2021 9 students, consisting of 2 teachers, 8 boys and 1 female student attended the new Cairns City Council animal shelter that is being constructed in Woree by Hutchinson Constructions.
Upon arrival, students made sure they were wearing their required PPE and went through a site induction process. From here they were shown several aspects of the new site as well as where the different animal sections were to be located.
From the reading of site plans to the various aspects of concrete slab preparatory work were evident. They observed workers and crane operators lifting roof trusses into place.
The site foreman and project supervisor were very informative and impressed with the quality and amount of questions that were asked by the students. They also promoted women in trades.
A useful and thought-provoking site visit for our construction students.
Thanks to Hutchinson Builders for hosting our staff and students.
