Hosted by the Business Liaison Association (BLA) in partnership with local schools and community stakeholders in Cairns, North Queensland. 

The Business Liaison Association extends its sincere appreciation to AAB Equipment, Cairns Business Woman’s Club, CBC Staff Selections, McLeod's Office Furniture, Adhesive Communication, and Status Signs for their valued sponsorship of the Excellence in Business Award.

Through their ongoing support, we continue to strengthen pathways between education, training, and employment, empowering the next generation of students and future professionals across Far North Queensland.

 

Overview

The Excellence in Business Awards, presented by the Business Liaison Association in collaboration with local industry, recognise and reward outstanding Year 12 students from Cairns and the Far North Queensland region who are interested in pursuing a career in business and related fields.

These awards provide an incentive for students aspiring to careers in business administration, management, human resources, marketing, public relations, operations, and finance, through both academic and vocational pathways.

 

The awards aim to:

  • Encourage students to pursue professional careers in business
  • Promote and recognise excellence in business studies
  • Support both academic and VET pathways in Business education
  • Foster awareness of the skills and attributes required to succeed in the business sector

 

Conditions of Entry

Schools may nominate Year 12 students undertaking studies in one or more of the following:

  • Business (General)
  • Business Studies (Applied)
  • Certificate II and/or III in Business

To be eligible, students must:

  • Achieve a minimum B standard in their relevant subject areas
  • Certificate in Business students should have a competency grade to date.
  • Demonstrate a strong interest in pursuing a career in business or related fields

In addition:

  • Applications must be submitted through the school’s Business or Humanities Departments
  • Schools are responsible for coordinating and endorsing student submissions
  • Students must provide supporting documentation outlining their interests and achievements in the areas of business
  • Shortlisted students must be available to attend an interview with the judging panel
  • All submissions must be the original work of the student and must adhere to QCAA academic integrity standards.

Please note: Schools may submit up to two (2) student nominations

Please note: Final prize amounts may vary from those listed above, depending on sponsorship contributions and the number of applicants.
