Hosted by the Business Liaison Association (BLA) in partnership with local schools and community stakeholders in Cairns, North Queensland. 

The Business Liaison Association extends its sincere appreciation to Ergon Energy Network for their valued sponsorship of the Ergon Energy Innovation Awards.

Through their support, we continue to strengthen pathways between education, training, and employment — empowering the next generation of agricultural professionals across Far North Queensland.

 

Overview

The Ergon Energy Innovation Awards provide a unique opportunity for Year 12 students across the Far North Queensland region who are interested in pursuing a career in engineering.

The awards encourage students to demonstrate their engineering problem-solving skills, innovation, and technical capability through the development of practical solutions to real-world challenges.

These prestigious awards aim to support and recognise students intending to pursue tertiary study in engineering-related fields, including biomedical, aerospace, energy, electrical, and mechatronics disciplines.

 

Eligibility Criteria

The awards are open to:

  • Year 12 students enrolled in ATAR Engineering subjects
  • Students achieving a minimum of a B standard in their relevant studies
  • Students enrolled in schools within Cairns and the Far North Queensland region

 

Conditions of Entry

  • Students must submit a physical or virtual prototype, supported by a comprehensive portfolio.
  • The prototype must provide an engineered solution to a mechanical and/or mechanical problem.
  • The project must demonstrate application within one or more of the following fields:
    • Biomedical Engineering
    • Aerospace Engineering
    • Energy Systems
    • Electrical Engineering
    • Mechatronics
  • All submissions must be the original work of the student.
  • Schools are responsible for verifying the accuracy and authenticity of student submissions prior to endorsement.
  • Schools may submit multiple nominations.

Runner Up                        $700

Encouragement Award     $300
