Task – Perform an activity with a small group of 3 to 5 year olds
Select a suitable activity that will address the case study below and promote interest and participation. The following are suggestions only. The list is limitless:
You have observed a group of 6 children (3-5 year olds) who are running around, doing nothing in particular and creating havoc! They are definitely NOT engaged in an activity!
Your challenge is to devise an activity that will promote interest and participation of this group, identifying types of learning opportunities and/or possibilities.
This activity needs to be relevant for a small group of 3-5 year olds at the Early Childhood Education Centre. The time needed to undertake the activity will be dependent on the task and attention span of the group. (About 15 minutes)
Written Submission (250-350 words)
(a) Briefly outline the activity selected and describe how you would conduct it.
(b) List all the items/materials you will need to use.
(c) Justify the appropriateness of the activity for group of 3 – 5 year olds, indicating learning opportunities and possibilities.
(d) Identify any safety issues related to your activity and the safety precautions you would put in place if needed.
(e) List questions that you would use with the children to promote agency and learning.
4-6 entrants will be selected after written submissions have been judged to perform their chosen activity at Cairns TAFE Community Childcare Centre, Manunda (40521825) with a group of children aged between 3 and 5.
