About 2011

Yassmin Abdel-Magied, the Suncorp 2010 Young Queenslander of the Year and founder and president of Youth Without Borders came to Visit Mareeba State High School today Monday 18th July . Yassmin started her day by addressing the students on parade giving an inspirational speech, encouraging them to learn from their mistakes and to strive for their dreams.

She then visited various classes throughout the day to talk about her experiences and to share her knowledge.  I was lucky enough to have Yassmin visit two of my classes, Technology Studies and Graphics and on both occasions she was very professional and extremely informative.  It was a pleasure to have her.

Can I say also what an incredible speaker Yassmin (Australian Youth of the Year 2010) was!   She enthralled and captivated our kids here at Innisfail.  Her opening line to year 9 English – “ I am into boxing and racing cars……” She had the boys following her around all day!

She was adept at any audience and had an excellent message. Well done to you and the BLA team. A great service to our local schools – I am sure the other schools would concur with my comments.
